It's Okay to Not Be Okay
Traveling the path to selfcare is not an easy one, we spend so much time in the search for temporary fillers that bring to our life the comfort we need to “feel '' good about ourselves. From stress and anxiety to depression and burnout, many individuals face a range of mental health struggles leading to one of the main causes for disability.
Since the pandemic it seems like out of a sudden mental illness, something that was considered mostly for very ill people is now in high demand. It made it possible for us to understand that it's okay to not be okay and to seek support when needed.
By simplifying our lives, cultivating selfcare practices, and engaging in activities that bring us joy, we can find our true essence and transform from chaos to bliss. The art of selfcare must be connected to an act of compassion towards us by recognizing our deepest desires, unveiling emotions and uncovered needs.
Here is some ‘heads-ups’ to bring awareness and understanding:
-
Stay attuned to your mind and body. It’s important to cultivate a healthier relationship with yourself to navigate life's challenges with resilience and grace.
-
Recognize the symptoms. Fatigue, irritability, lack of motivation, and difficulty are the red flags that signal the need for selfcare interventions.
-
Set healthy boundaries. Boundaries are pivotal in safeguarding our mental wellbeing. Learning to say no when necessary and expressing our needs fosters a healthy balance in our lives.
-
Establish a consistent self-care routine. Allocate time for activities that replenish your energy like talking to a trusted friend, seeking guidance from a therapist, or joining a support group.
-
Be fully present. Incorporate observation/reflection techniques into your daily routine and cultivate a sense of calm and clarity amidst life's challenges.
-
Embrace self-compassion. Treat yourself with kindness and understanding, just like we would with a friend in need.
-
Acknowledge your thoughts and feelings without judgment. Counter negative self-talk and embrace the process with love and understanding for yourself.
These practices are powerful tools in our self-care arsenal, promoting emotional well-being and resilience in the face of adversity.
Remember, by incorporating selfcare into your daily routine you are affirming your worth and taking proactive steps to prioritize your emotional and psychological well-being.
In conclusion, Mental Health Awareness Month serves as a powerful reminder that investing in our overall wellbeing is a commitment to cultivate a deeper understanding of ourselves and build resilience to navigate life’s challenges and emerge stronger.
A kinder world starts with each of us by embarking in our own selfcare journey to spread love and compassion to others.
